Inception
Ornate Interiors can work to any specification for fibrous
plasterwork. We can match existing designs for cornice, corbels, niches etc. either from a photograph (as we did
for Newcastle Station) or from a piece of existing plasterwork from which we make the mould.
Making The Mould
We often need to take a sample of the plasterwork insitu
to enable us to match to the existing. To do this we take a squeeze of the cornice by taking a saw and cutting through
the cornice on the ceiling to expose the end. We then draw round the profile onto paper. The paper profile is then
transferred on a piece of zinc which is cut and shaped to suit.
The zinc is then transferred onto a hand held
running mould called a horsemould constructed out of timber, which is used to produce the inverted profile for the mould.
A piece of timber is then laid onto the bench to be used as a running rule which is basically a base line for the edge
of the mould.
