The work carried out to shop fronts and ceilings in the North Concourse at Leeds City Station won the prestigious
"City of Leeds Award for Architecture."
Because of the height of the area of renovation, workspace
became restricted due to the awkwardness of replacing the 8ft x 8ft coffer ceiling panels from a mechanical scissor
lift.
Many panels were badly water damaged and had to be taken down and replaced in one piece. The panels were
manufactured in the workshop and each one took two men half a day each to manufacture.
Extensive repairs were
also made to existing cornices and plain faced walls to the station's Art Deco style City Square entrance.
