There has been a church on the same site at Honley St Mary's, near Huddersfield, for nearly 500 years and the use of
traditional plastering methods could well extend that significantly. Ornate Interiors worked on the internal preservation of the existing church which dates back to 1843 as part of a conservation programme using historic lime plastering materials.
Repairs were carried out to the plasterwork inside the church and a number
of fibrous bosses were replaced together with arch mouldings in the ceiling area that had perished from water damage. The
total contract has involved over 400 man hours for Ornate Interiors who are used to working in such sensitive surroundings
and have applied their knowledge to a number of churches throughout England.
Wakefield-based property consultants
NPS masterminded the project and a high degree of specialist skill was required to restore the church as Assistant Principal
Building Surveyor Helen Price explained:
"The damage to the plasterwork and arches inside the church was
significant and needed to be addressed but we wanted a solution that was sympathetic to the church's interior as well as
offering a high degree of longevity.
