The scheme included the refurbishment of two function rooms (mustard room and pink room) within the Medlock Suite of the
Grade II listed Ashton Town Hall. One room incorporated traditional sand and lime plasterwork to ceiling, walls and moulding
work and the other predominantly utilising the more modern fibrous plasterwork. During the investigation following an attack
of dry rot, the historic plaster ceiling was revealed and restored to its former glory using traditional building practices
and materials.
The highly ornate pink room was repaired using traditional fibrous plaster fabrication techniques on
the walls and ceilings incorporating around eight different moulding designs. The mustard room was renovated using traditional
lime based materials including a lath and plasterwork ceiling which had to be stripped down to cornice level prior to
replacement. A new corbel bracket mould was also replaced which was designed by Ornate Interiors to be in keeping with the
rest of the room.
Working to a tight programme the project was completed a week ahead of schedule.
